How my world view has changed since the study of World War II
By: Thomas

Through the Wold War Two lessons I have learned that there are some times when something must be done to prevent something so bad like World War Two from happening again. If I see something that isn’t right or is unjust then I will do something about it. If there is one important message that I have received from my study of WWII is that sometimes there are things that need to be done to prevent terrible things from happening.  Why didn't anyone prevent Jewish people from dying in the Holocaust when they hadn’t done anything wrong?

Sometimes there are people that are just pure evil, Hitler was a perfect example, and these people seem to want to cause the most pain and destruction. Now that we know some of the signs that a megalomaniac or someone that is pure evil, we can try and prevent that now, but it will never be easy to prevent something like that.

Even now there are holocausts, and yet we don’t try to prevent some of them. I think that we need to step in and help stop the other holocausts and stop racial discrimination no matter what some people think. You still can never put a complete end to any kind of discrimination, you can still temporarily stop it in the worst of places and save many lives.

It’s the same with Communism and dictatorships, though you can’t put a complete end to it, you can still stop it temporarily and save many lives. Even though Stalin was a Communist, he still did many things to help the Allies despite their differences and dislikes.

Even though the atom bomb is a weapon of mass destruction, sometimes it must be used, but with great caution. The bombings of Japan had a perfect psychological affect on the Japanese for the Americans, it still was bad that all those innocent people died. I hope that we will never have to use another atom bomb, but that would be inevitable if there was another world war.

There are many kinds of ways to escape the law, such as false identities. The ODESSA, a service disguised as a charity company, supplied false identities to Nazi war criminals so they could escape the law. If possible, I think that there should be a tighter security on the black market, or illegal market. Many refugees have false identities obtained from the black market; and if there were a much smaller black market, it would be much easier to find criminals who aren’t in jail.

There are many things that should be watched more carefully, including some of the things listed above. Though some are not doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t be watched more tightly than they are now. I believe that in order to prevent another world war we need to watch for signs that started the first and second world wars so another doesn’t start.
