How has my world view changed since the study of World War II?
By: Meghen A.
| When I was first told that we
would be learning about WWII, I wasnt sure if I wanted to come. I thought I might
not enjoy learning about WWII but I was wrong. I had no idea how interesting it would be
or how much I would learn. Before we started our study of the war, I thought that the war
was started because of what Hitler was doing to the Jews. Going into the study of WWII I
didnt know anything about the war, Hitler, or the holocaust. Im really glad I
decided to come because it really changed my perspective on the war. Studying World War II taught me a lot about what was going on during that time. I learned a little bit about the great depression and some of the thing that caused it. I learned a few things about Hitlers life, where he was born, how he started to hate Jewish people, and that he had been in WWI. The war also helped America come out of the great depression because of the high need for some of the things they used during the war like panty hose, rubber, and many other things. My veteran also taught me a lot about the war. Instead of hearing about the war from books and lectures, I got to hear about it from his perspective. He not only taught me about the war from his point of view, I also think it was a great experience. Im really glad that I got to have that opportunity because if I wouldnt have come to EL for our WWII study I dont think I would have got that chance. He seemed to have a lot of strong feelings about the war and it made me realize how important the war was to some people and what it meant it him. I also think learning about the Holocaust and the war made me a better person. I think now that I am a more caring person because I learned how evil people could be by seeing what Hitler did to all those people. I always new the war was bad but I never knew how many people lost their lives. Studying the war also taught me a lot about other countries like Japan, Germany, and France. I think that learning about the war has affected me a great deal. I think it changed my life by helping me realize how terrible Hitler was. I think now I understand how propaganda can really destroy peoples lives. It really shocked me that one person could do so much damage. Im glad Hitler didnt succeed with his Thousand Year Reich because its terrible to think that if Hitler would have succeeded the world could still be the way it was during the Holocaust. I think the war has helped me understand how bad hate crimes, discrimination, and about judging people by who they are instead of what they are. |
