How has my world view changed since the study of World War II?
By: Mike
| Since I have studied World War II my
thoughts have changed about some things. I have different thoughts about how the Jewish
people were treated, how some people tried to help the Jewish, how evil Hitler was, that
we developing the atom bomb helped us win the war, that we were got very strong fast, and
that we could have easily lost the war. Those are some of my thoughts that have changed by
studying World War II. One of my thoughts that have changed is how the Jewish were treated. I always new they were treated horribly during WWII, but not that bad. I think it is wrong just because of someones race to treat him or her badly and even kill them, plus they didnt do anything. That is how my thoughts of how Jewish were treated have changed. Another thought of mine about the Jewish people that has changed is how people helped or didnt help them. Although some people wished the Jews werent treated badly, they didnt help for fear that they would get caught and get in trouble. Still there were those brave people who cared enough to help take care of the Jews, hide them and keep them safe. Not only did they have more responsibility if the Germans found out they were hiding Jews they would get in big trouble. That is how my thoughts about how people helped and didnt help the Jewish. One of my thoughts that got bigger and didnt change is how evil Hitler was. I always new he was bad and killed Jews. Once I learned how he was mean to the Jewish people and his troops, my thoughts about him got worse. I never knew about all the things he did and how horrible they were. I did learn some facts about him though, for instance he wanted to go to art school. That is how my thoughts about Hitler changed. I had thought why we won the war was because of our good army. Now I know it wasnt just the army that helped us win the war. The atom bomb helped win the war. Still I believe our army did a lot of the work in Europe. Since we had the atom bomb people surrendered after they saw what we could do with it. What we did is bomb Japan twice to show that we had more of it. So then people thought if they have more then we dont want to fight with them if they will just blow us up. I never gave the atom bomb much thought now I know that it helped us win the war and change history. Before I studied World War II for some reason I thought we had a big huge army ready to fight. Now I know that we didnt have a big army ready to fight. We were in the middle of the Great Depression when the war started to come. So we had to get everything made, train soldiers, and basically get ready for war. Well I always had thought that we had an army and just started to fight and build more. Well that changed when I learned how it really was. So that is how my thoughts changed about how we had an army ready. I also changed a thought on how easily we could have lost the war. I use to think that we were so strong. I knew we werent invincible. Then after we studied it I thought if someone else got the atom bomb before us then we probably lost, or if we didnt have good enough Generals, or technology we might have lost. Or just about anything could have gone wrong and we would have lost. Though I guess there werent too many huge problems that made us lose since we won. Still there were a lot of problems. Overall we won. I now know how easily wars can be won or lost. Over all I had a lot of thoughts that changed by studying World War II. They were important thoughts to change otherwise I could have got World War II all wrong and gave America too much credit and not enough to the many individuals that helped out. Well I changed my thought about Jewish people were treated, how some people tried to help the Jewish, how evil Hitler was, that we developing the atom bomb helped us win the war, that we were got very strong fast, and that we could have easily lost the war. Now my thoughts have changed about the war. |
