How has my world view changed since the study of World War II?
By: Kevin

During my time of study of WW2, many of my thoughts have changed. Not just WW2 thoughts, but about everything. I’ve begun to question the violence in games and shows. I’ve noticed through the interviews about humor and terror in wartime.

I, personally, played a game my brother and I made up called Eye of the Tiger. It is a nerf gun game and one team would hide something. The other team would search for it without getting shot. The team that hid it would set up into defensive stance. They would try to stop us  from getting it. Now, after my studies, I’m not so crazy about that game. I no longer like that game as much because after everything that happened in wars I don’t want people to start thinking that war would be OK. Also, it makes me question whether all these shows involving fighting and violence are appropriate.

There is some humor in war, too. Like when war veteran Mark Moore was in a concentration camp. One time, he went into a house looking for food. When he got in, there was a German soldier in the house also. Mr. Moore had to do something quick or he could be injured. So he said," Cigaretto for beefo?’’ The soldier said something in German then ran into a different room. He thought that he was going to go and get a gun to kill him. He came back moments later not with a gun, but with a chunk of beef. He handed him the beef then took the cigarettes, for they liked cigarettes from America. Mark had never smoked in his life and still doesn’t today, but the Red Cross had sent packs of food, medical material, and cigarettes. But the happiest memory he had at that camp was being liberated. I knew that there would be some funny times but I didn’t think there would be many. It was surprising that my veteran looked back at this time of war with some fond memories because he made lots of friends then.

On the more serious side, we learned more about Hitler’s actions and oddities. I didn’t know how sinister he was. I didn’t know how sinister he was. Now I know more about how he was. I hope no one will ever turn into a Hitler again. Many times, I heard about Hitler killing unnecessarily, but that was his nature. Many called him evil, and that he was. He even killed Germans if they simply made fun of his mustache. Spies were all over telling him what they heard about him or anyone in his army and who said it. He even killed his own generals if he thought they were spies, even if they weren’t. He wouldn’t give most people a second chance. Many Germans then were under his spell of getting people to like him. You either loved him, or you hated him.

Now, I just hope history doesn’t repeat itself. That war made a dent in everyone’s population. All that I hope for now, is peace to all in the world and never again, a war.

All that I hope for now, is peace to all in the world and never again, a war.
