How has my world view changed since the study of World War II?
By: Katie B.
| The study on World War Two has changed
my views on wars a lot. I used to think that people were always fighting over big things.
I learned that wars do start over small things. Also, when I was little, I thought that
there were heroes and there were villains. Actually, they are all fighting for what they
think is right. Although wars are terrible, people fight in them because they cant
work things out peacefully. The way I had been hearing about Hitler, he was very mean. Most people, even the exceptionally strong, would cower in his presence. He changed my views on power. His actions showed me how powerful one solitary man can be. At first, Hitler thought that the Jewish were not enough like Germans and that they should all be evacuated from the country. After a long time, he thought that the Jewish and all those who dont have blonde hair and blue eyes should be destroyed. He started a group called the Nazi party. I think that most of them were just afraid of Hitler going after them next, so they joined him. They put Jewish people in concentration camps. This is a terrible thing to do and I hope that I never have to set foot in one of those camps. The things I learned about the home front changed the way I look at womens work forever. I used to think, although I knew better, that men could do more than women. Thats what the older kids said. But now I know that women can do just as much as men. The women helped on the Home Front lots more than I thought was possible in their situation, given the preconceptions of their time. I have thought about how the American must have felt having no food or enjoyable things to do throughout the Great Depression. I would not be able to live that long without decent food. I do not like to think about how the world would be during a depression. People would always be starving all the time, every day. My view on the WWII weapons has changed after I learned all about them. I couldnt imagine being a child and having to give up some of my toys so they can be made into weapons. The Atomic bomb plan was a plan that could go completely and totally wrong. The bomb could have just blown up any time. That would have cost many innocent lives. When they dropped the bomb on Hiroshima the effects were disastrous. Although the Japanese deserved it, that does not mean that it was right. We also dropped a second bomb on Nagasaki with the same effects, catastrophic ones. My view that war is okay with reason has changed so much that I believe now NO WARS ARE OKAY!!!!!!! We should work out our disagreements serenely without having to cause danger to innocent lives. Wars are wrong and there is no way to make them lead you on the right path. |
