Before we started studying World War ll
I knew little more than it took place around 1941-1945. I knew about the Holocaust and I
knew that the A-bomb was dropped in Japan. I hadnt given much thought to the men who
were in wars.Since Ive studied about World War ll, Ive realized that war is
good in some ways and bad in other. War is bad because a lot of people die, both soldiers
& civilians. War destroys economies and demolishes cities. War uses up money that can
be used for something better. But war does advance technology. In World War ll many
inventions were made including microwaves, jeeps, nuclear power, synthetic rubber, nylon,
& others.
I also learned a lot about other countries history, especially about Hitler and
the rise of the Nazi Party. Hitler was also a megalomaniac who wanted to control the world
and rid it of Jews and other races. It was a good thing he didnt succeed. More
people would have died. Many people live in freedom because he wasnt successful.
I have also learned a lot about neuclear physics and how the atomic bomb was developed.
I think Truman made the correct decision to drop the A-bomb on japan. I feel that it was
right because far more people would have died in an invasion the bombs put an end to the
war.
I learned a lot about the war when I interveiwed my veteran Ralph Shackelford. The
veteran thought the war wasnt worth the sacrifice. I agree.
