How has my world view changed since the study of World War II?
By: Charlie D.

Since learning about the history surrounding World War II my view on the world has changed. I see war as being a lot less glorious and people as being more dependent on each other and some people are less dependent on others. The Holocaust also has changed view on the world.

War has always seemed less than glorious to me but by hearing stories of soldiers experience in World War II I have realized what can happen today in a war. In the navy although you got to see far off islands, you where often in danger of being sunk or hit by a kamikaze. They did have some neat experiences such as whenever they crossed the equator or international dateline they would have a celebration. Since they were under so much pressure maybe this gave them more reason to take all opportunities to celebrate successes.

People became more dependent on each other because there were rationed resources causing people to divide things among each other. I think this was kind of good because when people are more dependent on each other it makes them work together more. We are more independent today due to the abundance of our resources yet we are dependant on other countries for their imports such as oil. Before the war the US was an isolationist country, thinking we didn’t really need anyone else’s help. Now, we realize we do need other countries to help us.

Communist Russia became more independent after the war because most countries didn’t trust them and Russia thought that they didn’t need anyone’s aid. Russia became more isolated from non-communist countries.

My views have also changed because now after I’ve studied the Holocaust and segregated soldier units. I try very hard not to be racist toward people that are different. I will work to keep racism down in my community.

Those are some ways that my views on the world have changed. I feel wiser than I was before. The studies we did and the interview where a very strong experience in forming my thoughts.
