How has my world view changed since the study of World War II?
By: Anna

The study of World War Two has changed my view of the world. One of the things I realized was that Hitler made the Jews suffer. Discriminating against someone because of their religion is wrong. I feel that everyone should be treated equally.

I used to think that the world was a peaceful place and sometimes it is, but World War Two changed that thought completely. Everyone was fighting with everyone. In some countries they are still fighting. I don’t think they even knew what they were fighting about. Hitler, who was power hungry, wanted to take over the world. The war made me feel insecure and angry. A whole generation was wiped out in Europe. The war ended up being, in my opinion, the worst war. War in not necessary and doesn’t seem to solve problems. I hope it never happens again. I think everyone should be content with himself or herself, but I guess not everyone can.

The atomic bombs dropped on Japan really changed how I looked at weapons. The atomic bomb scared me. It was so powerful I didn’t even like hearing about what it did. Other weapons scared me to, weapons like machine guns.

I was impressed with how much everybody helped in the war effort. On the Home Front a lot women were working on airplanes and weapons. Now I know women can do anything men can do.

I was disturbed by how devastating the war was on the countries and the people who lived there. The after math of the war was just as bad as the war itself I think. Almost every home was gone. People were trying to find work in Europe. Many people were lost and many families were be torn apart. I’m glad we decided to help the other countries rebuild themselves. But even after the war nothing was peaceful, the war changed some countries like Germany around. I hope no one will be able to do what Hitler did again.

While interviewing my veteran he told me of some scary incidents. These incidents also changed my view. He spoke of two German soldiers with guns. When I heard this story I realized that the Germans were really everywhere. He told me that there were houses and buildings burning the horizon glowed at night. I believe the war has changed the world in a good way. The good way is the knowledge of what a war can do to people and families.

I hope nothing will ever happen that is like World War Two. I am so glad I am living today and not during the period of time we studied. So, as I have said before, the world is not peaceful or secure all the time. I hope the world stays this way for a long time so I will not be the one who is the veteran of war. My views have changed a lot over the study of World War Two.
