Edward Arthur Dorking

By Chris Graves

Edward Dorking was born Sunday June 18, 1893 and he was from Liss, Hampshire in England.  He groomed horses for a living.   Edward was a third class passenger.   His ticket number was 10482, and he paid 8 pounds 1 shilling for it.  Mr. Dorking was on the Titanic so he could see his uncle (Fred Cooke) in Oglesby, Illinois.  When he was on the Titanic he was 19 years old. After the boat hit the iceberg, he helped a woman named Emily Badman with her life belt. It is unclear exactly what happened after this, but he ended up in the water after the Titanic sank. While he was in the water, he heard gunshots, and then he saw an officer (or maybe the captain) shoot himself. He survived and was rescued by Collapsible Boat B. After the accident, he made many public appearances to discuss what happened to him.  He died Monday, April 12, 1954.
