General Archibald Willingham Butt

General Archibald Willingham Butt was born on September 26, 1865 in Augusta, Georgia. In Tennessee, he graduated from University Of The South in 1888.  When he graduated, he started a journalism job. He first wrote for the Louisville Courier Journal. Later, he worked as a reporter in Washington. In Washington, he worked for a group of southern newspapers. When he was working in Washington, he became secretary of the Mexican Embassy, with General "Matt" Ransom. "Matt" was a Confederate officer and former Senator from North Carolina. He later became a U.S. Army Officer.

Butt boarded the Titanic as a 1st class passenger from Southampton, with his friend, Francis D. Millet. His ticket number was # 113050, and his cabin number was B-38. He perished in the sinking of the Titanic. His body was never recovered.
