The Orchestra on the Titanic
By: P.J. Wallace

R.M.S Titanic had paid the C.W and F.N. Black Company to send musicians to play on their ship.  C.W. and F.N. Black sent two bands, and a total of eight people.  The eight people were Fred Clarke, P.C. Taylor, G. Krins, Theodore Brailey, Jock Hume, J.W. Woodward and, Wallace Hartley.  One band was led by Wallace H. Hartley that played in the first class lounge, the other played outside the A La Carte Restaurant.

They all went on the same second class ticket as passengers, and they embarked at Southampton.  The two bands were brought together by the disaster, and they played when the Titanic sank to keep the passengers calm.  No one knows if the last song played was “Nearer My God To Thee,” or Songe D Automne.  They kept playing even though they were relieved of their duties before the ship sank. All of the musicians died.
