   August "Wennerstrom" Andersson
By: Colton Beaumont

August “Wennerstrom” Andersson was 27 when he embarked from Southampton. There were about 26 Swedish people on the Titanic; most of them in third class.  He was from Sweden, and was born on April 24, 1884.   He was from Malmo traveling to New York. “Wennerstrom” was not his real name, but he was nicknamed that before he boarded the Titanic.  He traveled in steerage, and as they collided with the iceberg, he took some Swedish girls, walked them to the lifeboats, and went back down to steerage.  As the ship sank, he struggled to climb the sloping deck until the angle was too steep.  So hand in hand with other passengers, he slid down close to collapsible boat A.  As the Titanic was going down, he met Alma Palsson and her children.  He tried to hold onto them but lost them as the water rose.  Even though he was very close to the ship, he found that there was no suction as it went down.  He survived the accident.
