What are we doing in EL?
|
Monday |
Students are doing a group research project based on their
interests. They will use the information they've learned to conduct a
seminar and teach it to others. Parents - you are on the list to be
invited! Our topics are: Big Cats, the Loch Ness Monster,
Gems, and Planet X
We have finished our short unit on frogs with our final activity:
creating a myth about one of the characteristics of frogs. An afternoon group project called the Mystery Haunted House is
getting started! Students construct their haunted houses using
science and math skills. |
|
Tuesday |
Students have selected their group project. One group is working on
Bridges, studying engineering design, developing their own companies
with a limited budget, and building their own toothpick bridges. Whose
bridge will stand up to the weight? The other group is studying
Astrobiology - is there life in the universe? What does it take
for life to exist? What do we know about other places in our own solar
system? And what about distant, extra-solar planets? The culminating
project will be a science fiction creation of an original planetary
system and - life, of course. |
|
Wednesday
|
Wednesday groups are working on the same projects as Tuesday's
groups. |
|
Thursday |
Have you ever wanted to be a pilot, create the perfect paper
airplane? Will the same plane that flies the longest distance also do
acrobatics? Students explore aerodynamics and design as they barter,
sell, and trade supplies to other airplane companies as they try to not
only be the best at a variety of competitions, but to run a successful
business. Fossils and dinosaurs - two all time favorite topics are
combined in this unit on paleontology. Students are exploring what a
paleontologist does, and how they work as they take real sample fossils
found in the KC area and try to identify what they are and what
they tell us about the past. We'll also take a look at the history of
the study of dinosaurs, and visit the KU Natural History Museum in
Lawrence. |
